The festival, Castle Mela, will be an all-day event with music, food and performance from traditions across the world. The event is aimed at communities in the Castle ward but is open to anyone.
It is being organised by ward councillors Paul Croft
s, Shashi Dholakia and Maureen Shram alongside community groups from the ward and county councillor James Ashton.
Cllr Crofts said: "We want more people to get involved in this event so if any Castle-based groups, churches or organisations want to get involved we are still at the early stages."
Mela is a Hindi word meaning a coming together of people and Cllr Dholakia said: "I must stress this is open to people of all walks of life and the word mela does not mean this is just for people of Indian origin."
Cllr Crofts said: "We want this to be a multiracial multicultural festival embodying Castle's diversity."
Each year councillors are given an allowance which they can spend in their constituency and it is this money which is being used to fund the event.
Organisers are currently meeting every week to plan the event, which will be held on August 31 in Castle Fields park, off Irthlingborough Road.
There is an open invitation to performers, dancers and bands and community groups and churches which want to join in.
