A NEW museum will be fully open for the public to visit by the end of next month.
Wellingborough Museum only moved into its new site in Castle Way in May and is yet to open the main display area. However, the whole building should be functional by the end of October.
The museum is run by volunteers who helped move more than 2,000 years of history, artefacts and relics from the old site at Croyland Hall earlier this year.
Museum trustee Robert Wharton said: "The volunteers have been working so hard to get the museum ready in time – and this at the same time as running the shop and current exhibition.
"We are all looking forward to getting everything open to the public."
The museum's first exhibition since the move has been so successful they have had to extend its closing date twice.
A look into the history of Scouts has been running since August and will carry on until October 4.
The Scouting exhibition was put together with the help of local Scout groups, who provided the information and the artefacts, and has proved a big hit with the public.
More than 20 Scouting groups have visited the exhibition since the schools went back as well as individuals from the UK and abroad.
Mr Wharton said: "Since moving to the new site and opening our first exhibition we have been attracting an average of 1,200 people a month, which is three times what we used to get at Croyland Hall.
"We have noticed a lot of foreign visitors as well, which is great. They always like to write their name in the visitors book after travelling so far."
