A businessman touched by the story of a boy who is unlikely to ever walk or talk properly has pledged to try and raise thousands of pounds to help him.
Craig Johnson of T and K Home Improvements had been thinking about how to celebrate the 30th birthday of his firm when he read about two-year-old Harry Lister's plight in the Evening Telegraph.
Harry has Angelman Syndrome, an incurable condition which means he is unlikely to ever walk properly or talk, and which severely impairs his balance.
Mr Johnson said: "It really touched me. We have been in business for 30 years, so rather than just do an open day celebrating how old we are, we thought why not do one generating some money to help this lad."
He is hoping the company can raise £5,000 to help fund a safe play area for Harry, which is being planned by Neil Griffin, manager of Kettering's Newlands Centre, who is also looking to raise funds for Harry and his family.
Because of his balance problems Harry falls over regularly, so an area in his family's garden with soft surfaces would help enhance his quality of life.
T and K will be holding an open weekend from September 19 to September 21, where all pre-tax profits from quotes given over the three days is donated to help Harry.
It is also sending out vouchers to everyone on its mailing list, which amounts to about 13,000 people.
For every voucher filled in and returned to the T and K showrooms in Huxlow Close, Park Farm Industrial Estate, Wellingborough, the company will donate £3 to the fund.
People not on the mailing list can also call and request a voucher to be sent to them.
Mr Johnson said: "In the last 30 years we have taken a lot of money out of this area and we wanted to put some of that back by helping Harry.
"Together with Neil Griffin and the Newlands Centre we should be able to raise a lot of money."
T and K has experience in raising money for good causes, after generating £4,000 for Cransley Hospice in 2005.
