A dentist accused of putting a crown on a patient's tooth after dropping it on the floor faces an anxious wait over the future of his career.
Abiodun Bamgbelu, who runs a surgery in Northamptonshire, became aggressive as the single mum squirmed in the chair during the painful treatment in April last year, it has been claimed.

But she was forced to return to the surgery in Park Road, Wel
lingborough, in agony just hours later to have it removed because he was the only NHS dentist available.

Bamgbelu is accused of claiming she only had children to get a council house and accused her of trying to bite him, the General Dental Council heard.

The fitness to practice committee was told that Bamgbelu failed a hygiene examination at one of his two practices in neighbouring Bedfordshire just weeks earlier.

His hearing in front of the GDC panel has been adjourned after running over the scheduled five-day slot and will resume in February.

Bamgbelu faces a string of GDC charges over his treatment of Patient A, as well as others relating to a series of hygiene inspections dating back to 1996 at his surgeries in Bedford.

The panel heard that in February 2007, an inspection found a series of failings, including unsafe storage of clinical waste, out of date medication, dirty floors, rusty equipment and inadequate toilets.

The dentist is also alleged to have lied to Bedfordshire Primary Care Trust by falsely saying he had signed up to its practice quality improvement programme and forging a form to back up his claim.

If the allegations against him are found proved, Bamgbelu faces being struck off the dentists' register.
