The safe was later found empty in a park in Northampton.
Manager Anne Wilkin said: "We are really disappointed. We had been doing things to raise money throughout the year so that it doesn't all have to be done at once."
The money had been raised through selling tea-towels decorated with drawings by the children.
Mrs Wilkin said: "We are determined the children won't miss out on Christmas, but it is not good when we have spent all this time fundraising and now we have got to start again.
"Our parents have been really supportive, but in the economic downturn that we have it is very hard to go to parents and ask them to dig in their pockets again.
"We don't want to upset the children, so we haven't told them."
