Members of a community centre have been awarded £10,000 to put towards a new vehicle.
The Pravesi Mandal Hindu Centre, in Wellingborough, has been given a £10,000 National Lottery grant, which it will be spending on a new eight-seater MPV vehicle.

It will be used to deliver reduced price hot vegetarian meals to people living in and
around the Wellingborough area. Centre manager Ramesh Patel said: "The meals are for working people, unemployed people and those who have less money.

"We are very pleased to get this grant and we have already ordered the MPV.

"The vehicle has to be specially adapted to our purpose and it is going to have custom stickers on the outside. It will be ready at the start of November.

"We already supply some of the meals for Meals on Wheels so we have catering employees and facilities in place."

Awards for All is the small grants scheme administered by the Big Lottery Fund on behalf of Lottery Good Cause Funders, Arts Council England, Big Lottery Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund and Sport England. The scheme makes awards of between £300 and £10,000 to grass-roots community groups and voluntary organisations.

A total of £364,382 is being distributed to 52 groups across the East Midlands in the latest round of awards.

Mick McGrath, Big Lottery Fund head of the East Midlands region, said: "More than fantastic projects shared in close to £370,000 of Lottery funding in these latest awards and it's terrific to see the diversity of the groups who were awarded grants. Children's groups, community groups, education initiatives, charities and sports schemes benefited and all will be that bit closer to realising goals for the good of the whole region."

The meals cost £3.20 each and are delivered to people's homes. Call the Pravasi Mandal centre on 01933 442955 or visit them at 65 Elsden Road in Wellingborough.
