As newly-released Ministry of Defence papers showed a total of 27 officially-recorded UFO sightings over Northamptonshire, the camerman from Moulton filmed what he said was a possible unidentified flying object over Moulton 12.36am last Sunday.

He has posted his brief video on YouTube, saying it was "a possible mother UFO, with green and pink lights...the orange lights are street lights, but the pink and green lights are really suspicious, there is definitely something going on around here..."

Despite the 27 recorded UFO sightings in the county during the past decade the MoD is keen to disperse any claims of extra terrestrials, although it investigates sightings as if it may be a potential threat such as unauthorised military activity.

The MoD states: "We believe that rational explanations, such as aircraft lights or natural phenomenon could be found for them if resources were diverted for this purpose, but it is not the function of the MoD to provide this kind of aerial identifications service."

The MoD has received more than 10,000 UFO sightings since the UFO project was set up in 1950 and following investigation around five per cent remain unexplained.

However these reports may reveal more about military activity and paranoia during the Cold War period as the MoD investigated UFO files during this period in case it was evidence of a foreign Government developing missiles and satellites or testing prototype aircraft.

The chairman of Northamptonshire Association for Paranormal Experiences, known simply as Gary H, is cynical about what the Government will release to the National Archive and does not believe it will be the whole picture.

He said: "The only reason they are being opened up is because France, Germany and other countries have opened them up. They are not doing it willingly, they are doing it begrudgingly. We will only get what they want us to see. I am waiting to see what they release and how wishy washy it is."

He also believes the Government is continuing to cover up sightings, which does not help people who have genuine paranormal experiences and are ridiculed by those around them.

He added: "They (the Government) won't admit something is out there as they think it will upset religion.
