A traditional Saturday morning lie in was snubbed by a group of work mates who took part in a five-mile bed push in aid of a sick colleague.
A dozen staff from DHL and Snap on Tools in Telford Way, Kettering, ran two laps around the industrial estate pushing a hospital bed to try to raise enough money to send a terminally ill colleague on holiday.

DHL driver Roy Babbington organised the event, which raised more than £1,200 for the holiday fund.

He said: "One of our colleagues was diagnosed with terminal cancer and had between nine and 12 month left to live, so we thought we would raise some money to send him and his family on a surprise holiday.

"We are doing a number of other fundraising events. We will be doing including a cycle ride. We were thinking about doing a skydive but thought one or two of the group's blood pressure would go too high at the thought of that.

"We are hopefully going to raise £2,500 in total but we haven't decided where the holiday will be to yet – we hope it will be a nice surprise."

The group got into the spirit of the fundraiser by wearing fancy dress and braving the cold for the event.

They also remained tight-lipped about the colleague in question in order to keep the surprise going.

If you would like to help raise money contact staff at DHL or Snap on Tools on 01536 413800.
