The show is based on the phenomenally successful musical and the third film in the franchise has just been released in cinemas.
Kirsty Morris, from the Wellingborough school, said: "We are extremely fortunate to have been given the rights to perfo
rm this musical to the public as they have extremely strict usage guidelines.
"We are the only school in the area which has been allowed to perform this highly popular musical.
"The play is being designed, directed and acted by our sixth form students, as a community programme."
The dancing will be performed by the school's dance troupe, which were recently voted All England Finalists.
Mrs Morris said: "This show will be one of the biggest performances that the school has ever put on, and promises to be a real extravaganza, something for Wellingborough to be proud of."
The performance will take place from April 1 to 3 and tickets will go on sale in February. Pupils are currently looking for sponsors. Anyone interested can call Louise Ellis on 01933 222 039.
The Emmy-award winning film High School Musical was the first in the High School Musical film franchise.
It was released in 2006 and became the most successful movie ever produced by the Disney Channel Original Movie.
Its sequel, High School Musical 2, was released last year with the latest instalment hitting the big screen last month.
This film follows high school seniors Troy and Gabriella, who are faced with the prospect of being separated from one another as they go off in different directions after graduating from East High school.
