A New £200,000 ICT suite and a room for community use have been officially opened at a Corby school.
Studfall Junior School, in Rowlett Road, proudly unveiled its new facilities with the help of Corby and East Northants MP Phil Hope.

The school has been transformed by a new extension, which includes the ICT suite, a new community room with baby changing facilities and disabled toilets, a teachers' work room and a private office.

The existing interior of the school has also been rejigged as part of a scheme of work, which kicked off last Easter.

As well as officially opening the new facility, the school also launched its new website – www.studfall-jun.com – which will keep parents up to date with activities and will feature a weekly school news page called Studfall Spirit.

Kim Kirchin, who is headteacher at the school along with Louise McGeachie, said: "We have this wonderful new ICT suite. Before, the children were having to share computers, but now they don't have to do that."

The new community room, about the size of a classroom, has facilities which families with young children will be able to use.

She said: "After Christmas we plan to hold informal coffee mornings in the room where people can meet up in a warm and informal environment."

The ICT suite is designed for multi-use and is furnished with special high-tech desk computers which can be easily folded away to form a flat desk top.

Mr Hope said: "I am delighted to be opening this wonderful new technology suite, which is bringing Studfall Primary School right up into the 21st century.

"The brand new £200,000 facility will make the young students feel valued and proud, encouraging them to work hard and make the best use of modern technology to learn new essential skills and widen their horizons.

"Starting up a new website with an online newspaper will teach them the practical applications of their new computer systems.

"I am glad the school plans to make the best use of the technology suite by sharing its benefits with the parents and other members of the local community by starting a computer course for the older generation."
