Youngsters out to shine in final

Eight of the county's brightest young talents have been invited to compete at the English Bowls Youth Development Scheme Schools of Excellence regional finals at Melton Mowbray on April 18.

Nathan Betts, Matthew Cattell, Adam Pitfield (all Rushden) and Connor Cinato (Desborough) will all take part in the under-15 section while Curtis Johnson (Wellingborough), Sam Gamble (Kettering), Louise Haladij and Scott Adams (both Northampton) will be in the under-18 event.

Cattell, Cinato, Johnson and Adams are also all through to their respective age-group semi-finals in the Northamptonshire Bowls Youth Development Scheme singles.

In the under-15 quarter-finals Cattell beat David Walker (Kingsthorpe) and Cinato saw off Danny Walker (Wellingborough).

They will be joined in the last four by William Walker (Wellingborough) and Alice Moore (Northampton) who beat Liam Baxter (Northampton) and Megan Rolfe (Northampton) respectively.

At under-18 level, Johnson beat Jasmin Spear (Northampton) while Adams saw off Haladij.

The other quarter-final saw Daniel Waterfield (Kettering) beat Chris Manton (Kingsthorpe).

The one remaining quarter-final is today between Matt Wordingham(Rushden) and Tom Wellburn (Kingsthorpe).

The semi-finals are at Rushden on March 28.
