Striker Jack will add physical presence to Corby side

Corby Town have signed striker Jack Defty from King's Lynn.

The 25-year-old was the Linnets' top scorer in Blue Square North last season with 15 goals.

And Steelmen boss Graham Drury believes he is the sort of player the Steelmen will need as they now prepare for their first season at that level.

"He's a handful in both boxes. He can be a real asset in defensive situations and a great target man," said Drury.

"For him to get 15 last season when he wasn't playing in all the games shows what an eye for goal he has.

"But there's more to him than just being a target man. For a big lad, he's got a good turn of pace and lovely first touch.

"People will wonder why I've brought him seeing as I've already got four strikers at the club in Lawrie Dudfield, Jason Lee, Steve Diggin and Leon Mettam.

"But it's all about options and providing cover and competition within the squad.

"Diggin, Mettam, and to an extent Dudfield, are different kind of players whereas Jack is more like Jason in his approach.

"There may well be times this season when I will need to put both Jason and Jack up front together or someone like Diggin or Dudfield will need to play wide.

"Jack himself can play in central midfield too and I like players to have more than one string to their bow."

Defty's arrival is offset by the exit of Matt Nolan after an injury-plagued year at the club.

Initially full of goals, Nolan was sidelined for four months with an ankle problem and others have now moved ahead of him in the pecking

order.

"It's a shame for Matt. But with us going for the title last year I had to get others in," added Drury.

"He felt he couldn't accept the deal we were offering him and the travelling was also an issue so he's decided to leave and he goes with

our best wishes."
