Solid point for the Steelmen

Corby Town settled for a point and another good result against a play-off rival from their long trip to Cumbria in the Blue Square North.

Workington should have scored in the first minute when a flick-on put Reds top scorer Gareth Arnison in but he dragged his shot wide.

Instead, the Steelmen went ahead on nine minutes with a classic counter-attack.

From a Reds corner, the ball was cleared and a mistake by home defender Kyle May allowed Leon Mettam to race clear.

His first shot was saved but the Steelman reacted well to fire home the rebound.

From then on, Corby largely controlled the first half as Workington were kept at arm's length.

Johnny Wright sliced wide on 17 minutes after an error by Dolman but apart from that, Corby looked the better side.

Jack Defty was narrowly wide with a header minutes and May nearly put through his own net soon after but Reds keeper Tony Caig just got back in time to clear.

As excpected, Corby found themselves having to absorb some renewed pressure at the start of the second half but they weathered it well.

The main scare came on 62 minutes when Arnison went over in the box under Mark Osborn's challenge but the referee booked the Reds man for diving.

However, Arnison was not to be denied as he curled home a superb equaliser into the top corner on 67 minutes.

Corby's response was almost instant as Defty's 70th-minute header looked for all the world to be going in but just looped wide.

Chris Hope was also close on 80 minutes with a bullet header from a corner that was tipped away by Caig, leaving both sides to settle for a point.
