Sharman edges into European semi-finals
William Sharman has qualified for tomorrow's 110m hurdles semi-finals at the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona.
The Corby athlete edged through by one hundredth of a second when finishing third in a time of 13.60 in the third heat this morning.
Sharman clattered into the second hurdle but recovered to take an automatic spot in the semi-finals.
And he is hoping to save his best form for when the medals are on offer tomorrow afternoon.
"The idea isn't to run my fastest race now, it's to run it in the final and to go a lot faster in the semi-finals," Sharman said.
"My preparations 24 hours before this have been to ensure that would happen. So I am not disappointed but I am a realist and I know I will have to run a lot faster than that.
"I didn't take any chances or risks there because I wanted to make sure I didn't completely bodge it up!
"Clattering the second hurdle definitely affected me and I went to take the third and it wasn't in the position it should have been so I had to reach for that."
Sharman's British team-mate Andy Turner won the second heat in a time of 13.48.
The 110m hurdles semi-finals take place from 5.35pm on Friday with the final due to be 6.50pm.
