S&L stoke up the relegation battle

S&L 48 Wellingborough 7

Milan Crooks believes the Midlands One East relegation battle is now a four-horse race.

And after this derby win, S&L are very much the side in form.

"We dominated the game from the start really and took control from the outset," said Crooks, who retired after the match.

"I wanted to end on a good note and I did just that.

"Matlock winning didn't help us but it's really made it close at the bottom now and the bottom four will fight it out for just one safety place.

"From our perspective, we've achieved what we first set out to do which was drag the likes of Wellingborough back to us and we're right in touch with them now.

"Now it's a case of keeping the momentum going and on that front, we are looking good because confidence is high around the club after some good performances and results of late."

S&L ran in six tries on the day, two from Malcolm Crooks with the others coming from Tom Crewe, Greig Cook, Bradley Bowman and Jon Ironmonger.

Cook also landed six conversions and two penalties in a fine kicking display.

"I think we've scored more points in the last two games than we've managed in the whole of the previous five months," joked Crooks.

Although the outgoing skipper sees the contest at the bottom as a four-horse race, in truth, it looks more like three as bottom side Market Bosworth are now five points adrift of the rest.

However, the trio of S&L, Matlock and Wellingborough are covered by just three points but again, S&L have aces up their sleeves in the form of two games in hand.
