S&L set to start title celebrations

S&L again stand on the brink of history tonight as they go to Daventry Town in the Eagle Bitter United Counties League Premier Division.

One point will be enough to give the Corby side their first-ever league title.

And after being denied by a last-gasp equaliser for Newport Pagnell Town at the weekend, the S&L players are determined to finish the job off tonight.

"We were all disappointed by that result at the weekend, especially as we had such a good crowd down at the game and it would have been nice to have sealed the league in front of them," said boss Steve Noble.

"But in the cold light of day, we're actually quite happy with that result as Newport had to win and they didn't so that's them pretty much out of it now."

As well as the points on the board, Noble's men also have the advantage of a superior goal-difference to all their rivals.

As a result, the odds are now heavily in their favour but, despite only needing a draw tonight, Noble will send his side out to win.

"We can't just sit back and play for a draw – that's when you hit problems," he said.

"All season, we've set ourselves up to attack and win games and we'll be taking exactly the same approach for this game."

Noble and his men will also take inspiration from Corby Town who secured the BGB Southern League Premier Division title for the first

time.

"There were people at our game last Saturday listening in to what was going on at Corby Town and keeping everyone updated as to how they were going," said Noble.

"It will be great for the town if we can follow their lead by winning our league tonight."
