Relief at the S&L reprieve

S&L will be in the UCL Premier Division again next season.

For a time, it looked like the Corby side were facing the prospect of being relegated to Division One despite becoming champions for the first time because their Occupation Road ground did not meet the F-grade demanded by the FA for all clubs at that level for the 2009-10 season.

But common sense has ultimately prevailed at the FA and the farcical prospect of the champions being relegated has not come about.

"It's good news for the club and a relief as well because a lot of people put a lot of work into the club in the last year," said manager Steve Noble.

"We want to at least keep playing at this level and now we have the opportunity to do that.

"That said, we know we really should have been addressing this problem long before now and we also know a lot of work still needs to be done.

"But now we have the chance to push that process forward and ensure we do meet the requirements by the end of next season."

Changes of a different sort have already taken place at the club with the news that secretary Dave Foster and chairman Keith Julian have both resigned.

Treasurer Peter Honeyman is also believed to have stepped down from his post.

"I just felt I had given all I had to give to the club and it was time for someone else to take on the role so I didn't seek re-election," said Foster when giving his reasons for quitting.

Meanwhile, Potton United have been confirmed as relegated to Division One with their place being taken by Daventry United.

Potton finished second-bottom but were the lowest-placed club not to make the required ground-grading.

However, their demise is good news for Rothwell Corinthians, who finished bottom but have made the ground grading and so will get a second chance at the Premier Division again next season.
