Poppies vow to keep going

Lee Harper insists Kettering Town will "keep going" as they look to secure a top-five finish in the Blue Square Premier.

The Poppies picked up a valuable point in a 1-1 draw at second-placed Oxford United at the weekend as their superb away form continued.

James Dance grabbed Kettering's goal after former Poppy Francis Green had put the title-chasers in front.

And Poppies boss Harper is now targeting a strong finish to the

campaign.

"Oxford are a good side and they are going to be there or thereabouts at the end so for us, it's a good point," Harper said.

"You always expect to be under pressure when you go to grounds like that and we were disappointed to concede the goal.

"But Dancer has got us back into it with a great header and that was the lift the lads needed.

"We weren't at our best but we have nicked a point and, if we can start finding some really good form, there is no reason for us to fear

anyone in the division.

"We will keep going right until the end and see where it brings us.

"I have said all along I won't moan about the budget and what players we have got.

"We are getting on with the job and we firmly believe that with a few more home wins we would have been sitting in the top three at this stage.

"We know we need to pick up our home form but we will continue to go for it and see if we can finish the season well."

Harper, meanwhile, felt that comments made towards him by Oxford assistant-manager Micky Lewis were "uncalled for" after the Poppies boss contested a decision with the referee during the second half.

The two sets of coaching staff had to be separated and Harper added: "The incident just before it was the only time I spoke to the referee all afternoon.

"Some of the things that were said to me were a bit harsh but I am not going to complain about it.

"I was given a bit of stick and it wasn't nice but you have to get on with it and deal with it.

"It can happen in the heat of the battle but I thought it was uncalled for."
