Poppies eye a striking star
Mark Cooper will try to sign Tes Bramble – if the striker is able to prove his fitness when Kettering Town return for pre-season training next week.
The frontman, who is 28 next month, was released by Stevenage Borough at the end of last season after finding the net just the once in 11 appearances in Blue Square Premier.
Bramble – who has enjoyed lengthy spells at Southend United and Stockport County in the past – required knee surgery last November and that kept him out of action for the remainder of the campaign.
However, he will link up with the Poppies when they return next
Wednesday as Cooper looks to boost his attacking options ahead of the new season.
The Kettering boss said: "Tes is going to come in to try and prove his fitness. If he can do that, then there is good chance we will take him.
"He has a good pedigree and is the sort of player who can bring something a bit different to our squad.
"People may remember he was in the Stevenage team that came and beat us 4-1 in pre-season last year.
"He really beat our centre-halves up that day and that is the sort of thing I will be looking for from him."
Cooper, meanwhile, is looking forward to getting back to work and he admitted there will be other trialists coming in to join those already signed on.
He said: "We have a lot of hard work ahead of us and we will be looking to get organised very quickly and making sure the players know what is expected of them.
"There will be a few other trialists coming along. I am not in a position to go and spend lots of money so we will have to have a look at a few lads and see if we can unearth a gem or two."
