From last to first as Wellingborough are crowned champions
Wellingborough Weavers Leisure Centre, Weavers Rd,- Wellingborough Phoenix Basketball under-13 can win their league title with a win against Hertfordshire Warriors
Wellingborough Phoenix under-13s have truly lived up to their name this season after clinching the Midlands (South) Division title with a game to spare.
Last season, they finished rock-bottom of the pile.
But 12 months on, a change of coach and approach has seen the club rise from the ashes to the top of the pile.
“It’s been an amazing turnaround and the lads deserve great credit because they have worked really hard this year,” said team manager Phillippa Farrar.
“I think they have realised that if you want something, you have to work for it and they’ve certainly done that this year.
“We’ve been a lot more organised and just played a lot smarter in games and a lot of the credit for that goes to the new coach John Clarke and his assistant Lisa Mauchel who have both done a great job.”
Phoenix sealed the title in great style by thrashing Hertfordshire Warriors 107-47 at the weekend.
The result was never in doubt once Phoenix ended the first quarter leading 35-5 and by half-time it was 62-14 and the game, as a contest, was over.
Hayden Alcindor led the way for Wellingborough with 24 points, supported by Trei St Vie-Hutchinson with 20 and Keenan Salmon 16.
