Noubissie expects big things of Poppies

Patrick Noubissie expects Kettering Town to "go a long way" this season.

The midfielder made his league debut for the Poppies in his specialist holding role as they claimed a 1-1 draw with Oxford United in the Blue Square Premier on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old missed the opening-day win at Forest Green Rovers as the club were waiting for his international clearance to come through.

But he was thrown straight into the action for the visit of Chris

Wilder's much-fancied U's side and Noubissie was delighted with his team's display, especially after having to play the final quarter of the match with 10 men following Damian Spencer's controversial sending-off.

And the Frenchman believes anything is possible at the Elgood's Arena in the remainder of the campaign.

"We got a draw with a team who are expected to be one of the favourites and I thought we deserved even more from the game," Noubissie said.

"Sometimes you have to deal with the referee's decisions. But even when we had a man sent off we didn't really notice we were down to 10 men because everybody wanted to take something out of it.

"I feel we could have won it even with 10 so it was a great performance and very encouraging for the rest of the season.

"I think we have a very good team. If we keep working the way we have been and everybody commits themselves in the same way I think we can go a long way."

Noubissie, meanwhile, admitted to being relieved to just get his first league game done after a frustrating wait for international clearance.

But the former Livingston and Hibernian player was slightly surprised by the atmosphere inside the stadium in Tuesday.

"It was my first game and the fans were great and it was just great to get out there after getting my clearance through," he added.

"I wasn't really expecting an atmosphere like that and I was really pleased with the way the fans supported us all through the game.

"Now I am even happier about my decision to come here."
