Let's finish the job, says Steelmen boss
Graham Drury wants Corby Town to finish the job and win the NFA Hillier Senior Cup tonight.
The Steelmen face United Counties League leaders Daventry Town in the final at Rockingham Triangle with the chance of winning their first piece of silverware since the Southern League Championship match in August.
Drury feels putting a trophy on the table will be just the boost the Steelmen need going into the a crucial month of games in the Blue Square North that will determine whether they will make the play-offs or not.
"It's great for the club, it's great for the players and it's great for the fans and everyone loves to win a trophy," said Drury.
"I'll certainly be putting out the strongest side I can and we'll be going for it."
Daventry won't be easy opposition as they have only lost once season in the UCL and look strong favourites to take the Premier Division title for promotion into the Southern League.
But Drury is confident that his side will not under-estimate their lower-league opponents.
"We beat Kettering Town in the semi-final of this and if we can make the effort needed to beat Kettering then we might as well make sure we go on and win the thing," he reasoned.
The Steelmen had talked of trying to move the game to April 24 to fill the blank weekend they now have on the final day of the season owing to Farsley Celtic's collapse.
But the NFA have ruled that the game will go ahead as scheduled and it could turn out to be handy for Drury that they did.
"We've only got 13 fit players at the momennt so while I'm putting out a strong side, it does give some of those lads who have been injured or on the bench a chance to get a game," he continued.
"Gavin Strachan, Phil Watt and Jason Lee should all start and I'll probably start Steve Towers as well.
"He was suspended for the game at Workington last weekend so this gives him a chance to have a run-out and get back up to match pace before we play Hyde on Saturday."
Leon Hibbert will miss tonight's game as he suffered a slight reaction to his groin injury against Workington.
