Justin's pride in his role

Justin Edinburgh today proudly reflected on a year of progress as he celebrates his first anniversary as Rushden & Diamonds manager.

The former Tottenham Hotspur defender took charge at Nene Park 12 months ago when Garry Hill resigned following the 3-0 defeat at Burton Albion.

Edinburgh's caretaker spell led to a contract being signed at the end of last season and since then Diamonds have developed from a mid-table side into promotion play-off contenders.

He said: "I'm honoured to have been given this position.

"Overall I think the fans have certainly seen a team which is fully committed by giving everything they have got.

"I'm sure at the present time they are proud to come and watch the players.

"My first game in charge was the 9-0 win at Weymouth and it wasn't going to get much better than that!

"We've come close to matching that with a couple of 6-1 away wins at Barrow and Hayes & Yeading.

"There has been steady progress at home and we've found a bit of consistency. So I'm delighted with how things have gone.

"That's credit to the players who have responded and grown over the course of the season to become hard to beat.

"Initially I had a bedding-in period to get to know the players. A few stayed and a few went.

"This season we put together a new team which is still developing and the performances are getting better.

"We understand what we expect from each other and I'm excited about the rest of this season.

"Last summer I wasn't sure if we could make the play-offs. That was the aim and now we're in the mix.

"I can only praise the players for their achievements so far. We must remain focused on each game."

Edinburgh's league record at Diamonds has brought 20 wins and 12 draws in 43 games. Tonight they would go into the play-off pack with another positive result at home to Eastbourne Borough.
