Hope ready for it all to keep going crazy

Chris Hope admits the Blue Square North can be a "crazy" league at times.

But it's that sense of unpredictablity which encourages the defender to believe Corby Town are far from done in the play-off race.

"It's going to go right to the wire," he said. "It's a crazy league and it has been all season.

"You constantly pick up the paper and find that the teams at the top have been beaten by those at the bottom again.

"There's been some funny results all year and I still think there will be plenty of twists and turns yet.

"It really is the case that there are still about 10 teams in the running for the play-offs."

The Steelmen make the long journey to Workington tomorrow looking to extend their unbeaten run to three matches.

And Hope feels it's consistency like that that will give them the edge in the final reckoning.

"We said after beating Vauxhall Motors last week that we hoped that would be the springboard we needed to go on the sort of run we need to make the play-offs," he continued.

"That confidence has grown after drawing at Northwich in midweek which was a great result.

"It's important now we try and go six or seven games unbeaten and push on.

"Workington are another tough outfit and they've beaten some good teams on their own patch.

"But I thought we showed a bit of character to come back from being behind twice at Northwich and we'll take that into tomorrow's game."

With the mid-table position as congested as it is, Hope knows every result against sides around them in the league is crucial.

Like at Northwich, tomorrow's game is another potential six-pointer against a play-off rival.

But Hope prefers that as it means Corby's fate is in their own hands.

"It's encouraging that we've still got to play a lot of the teams around us in what will be the key games for us," he said.

"If we can take three points from those matches we'll be catching our rivals back up again."

Tomorrow should also see Hope continuing at the unfamiliar position of right-back, a role he's had to take since Liam Dolman came into the team.

But far from be concerned, the experienced Hope revealed he is enjoying his new position.

"To be honest I've always been of the opinion that wherever you are in the team, you always do your best," he added.

"I picked up a couple of niggling injuries and obviously the gaffer's brought Dolman in and he and Gullers (Phil Gulliver) have done well.

"But I've played right-back before several times when I was a bit younger and I'm enjoying being there now."
