Geraghty and mates are determined to end domestic trophy drought

Shane Geraghty says Northampton Saints are "desperate" to win the LV= Cup and bag the first part of an unprecedented treble.

The maverick fly-half helped Saints beat Saracens 31-20 to seal the club's fifth appearance in the domestic cup final – a competition they have yet to win.

It is a repeat of their last cup final seven years ago when they lost 40-22 to Gloucester in what was then called the Powergen Cup.

In 2003 the cup final was played in front of 75,000 at Twickenham. This Sunday a maximum of 12,000 will watch the clash at Sixways.

Geraghty doesn't care about the venue, though, as he tries to win the first piece of silverware of his career.

The summer signing from London Irish said: "We desperately want to win the LV= Cup.

"Getting silverware for the club is fantastic for the fans and the players. We will be going out on Sunday giving it our all to win this cup."

Saints beat Gloucester 27-14 at Kingsholm earlier in the season.

But Bryan Redpath's side are a much different proposition now having lost just two of their last 10 games.

Geraghty said: "It will be a massive test for us. They maybe didn't start the season too well but they have come into some good form now.

"The ground is drying up and they are a very dangerous team as they showed against Cardiff in the semi-final.

"They have people like James Simpson-Daniel and Lesley Vainikolo

and a good pack."

Gloucester are also fighting on three fronts as they are in the quarter-

finals of the European Challenge Cup.

But Geraghty knows Sunday could be the first part of a famous treble with Saints second in the Guinness Premiership and in the last eight of the Heineken Cup.

"We are still in all three competitions," he said. "But we are targeting this one and we are desperate to win it."

And though the final might not be at Twickenham as it used to be, Geraghty is adamant that will not affect Saints' determination to win a cup that also provides a place in the Heineken Cup for the winners.

"We can only be dealt with the hand we have been given," the 23-year-old added.

"The final is at Worcester so we will get on with it."
