Garry takes heart from defeat
Garry Hill remains happy with his Rushden & Diamonds squad – despite two successive defeats.
He looks unlikely to make any more signings at Nene Park before the transfer window closes at midnight with the focus instead falling on tomorrow's long trek to Blue Square Premier new boys Barrow.
Hill was left feeling "very frustrated" but "proud of the performance" as Diamonds lost 2-1 at old rivals Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday despite taking an early lead through Dean McDonald's first league goal since his summer arrival from Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
The Diamonds boss said: "I'm really happy with where we are at the moment with a squad of 20.
"We went to Kidderminster without five players. But we can't feel sorry for ourselves.
"I believe we should have won that game out of sight. That's football and it's all about getting goals.
"We ran the game for long periods and showed with the squad which has
been assembled that we can create a lot of chances.
"We've lost two games. Even with nine men against Histon we should have got a draw from being 2-0 down.
"Then we had enough opportunities to win at Kidderminster. They had two chances and scored both of them.
"So we can take a lot of heart out of this performance and I can't ask for any more because we dominated the game.
"They have beaten us from a long throw-in which fell to Russell Penn in the box for the winning goal.
"I think I will have to ask their manager Mark Yates for the Lottery numbers because I need a change of luck right now!
"This won't help our points tally. And sometimes you don't get your just desserts."
There was also mixed news for the Diamonds squad ahead of the trip
to Barrow.
Captain Curtis Woodhouse is available after suspension while midfielders Michael Corcoran and Marcus Kelly may recover from injuries.
But McDonald is ruled out with a hamstring injury which forced him off
just before half-time at Kidderminster. Lee Tomlin and Daryl Clare are still missing.
