Supporters Trust asking for donations with Poppies ‘on the brink’
This could be the last chance to help save the club.
That is the view of Kettering Town (Poppies) Supporters Trust chairman Mark Severn ahead of tonight’s friendly with Coventry City at Nene Park, which kicks off at 7pm.
The Evening Telegraph understands that the financial problems at the Poppies have deepened and that the club remains on the brink of extinction.
However, it is also believed that frantic talks with a view to a take-over from current chairman Imraan Ladak are continuing.
It is still not clear who the potential investor is but former Cambridge United chief George Rolls has been continually linked with coming in to help the club.
In the meantime, the Trust will stage this evening’s game and will be taking any donations from fans before they get to the turnstiles. Those donations will go straight into the ‘Save Kettering Town Football Club’ campaign fund.
And Severn, whose organisation described the club as “all but dead” after Northamptonshire Police withdrew their policing for last weekend’s clash with AFC Telford United which would have been played behind closed doors had the Nene Park pitch not been frozen, has called on all football fans to come to tonight’s game.
“It doesn’t matter who you support, no-one wants to see any club go to the wall,” he said.
“I don’t want to see any club struggling and on the brink but it is the case that is what is happening to the team I follow at the moment.
“We know there are talks still going on but we, as fans, have to do what we can.
“The Trust are doing everything we can to raise some funds and this game is a big part of that.
“Whether you support Kettering or someone else, we would ask you to come to Nene Park and help us survive.
“There is no pressure on anyone to donate a certain amount. Please come to the game and give what you can.
“The money donated goes straight into the Trust’s fund and we will look at it to see where we can help. But, as we have said before, we won’t be throwing it into a black hole.
“I have been treating every game recently as the last one I would see and tonight is no different.
“We are looking potentially at the last chance to save the club so we need all our fans and supporters of other clubs to help us.”
Debts at Nene Park have reportedly spiralled out of control and a winding-up petition from Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs and a potential three-point deduction are still hanging over the club.
Donations of £7 for adults and £3 for under-16s will be welcomed before fans go to the turnstiles tonight.

Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 08:40 AMTo say Jordan left because players werent getting paid is wrong and who knows one day he may be back. I think it has been explained why he was de-registered below. The youth set up hasnt diminished, last week Ben Ford and others got their chance to show. Ben got signed, others will follow. Things take time unfortunately.

Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 10:43 PMReply to Pepsi.... Jordan Cross was offered a contract with another club and took it up because the news got out that the club hadn't paid the players. shame, but if things turn out for the better and the club stays alive, he might come back.

Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 10:20 PMI would like to say that the youth set up has just about diminished since Mark Stimson left the club. He took 3 players from the youthreserve team and got them training with the first team on a regular basis, These were Ollie Jones, Elliot Dent and young Pryor..... The players were doing well and should be looked at as first team regulars who cost absolutely nothing and would be the best way forward for the club. With a points deduction or not, it would be better to establish a team now, who will play together regularly and prepare for a season in a league below, or make themselves aware of what is expected at the current level. Get these 3 in the starting line up as soon as possible and have hope for the future of KTFC.

Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 03:39 PMBefore you aim for the moral high ground, you should know that the referral to Chernobyl is aimed at the contamination of Corby itself., and not to the poor souls that are suffering from the effects. The town is a dog hole, and as much as the council endeavour to sex the town up, it always will be.Getting back on course and commenting on the football side of things, the sport in the countyl is in absolute mess., and unfortunately I can't see it improving in the forseeable future. There's only one club in the county that should be professional, and even they should knock 25% of the entrance fee to bring it into realistic line.

Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 02:53 PMKING TED.... I think the calling of Corby "Chernobyl" is absolutely discusting it is not at all funny. I know, along with quite a few people some of the suffering many families have suffered with deformities when their children were born and you will find that their cases were upheld. For you to come on a website and to use their name in vain shows what a peice if S..T you must be. Do you realise how many kids from Corby have suffered you must be an absolute mug to come out with a comment like that.

Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 01:45 PMI know that you are eagerly awaiting the King's take on the latest football developments. Firstly, the problems at Kettering will not go away, and credit to the fans who are giving so generously out of their meagre personal funds to keep the club alive. However, it's totally futile, as they will never be able to afford to stay at Nene Park and have no home to go to, unless of course there's a U turn with regards toa return to Rockingham Road. Secondly, I have to laugh at the hypocrisy of the Dim fans who have mocked the Poppies move to Irthlingborough, but have now re-located themselves to Wellingborough. What a farce ! Finally, I sincerely hope that Glasgow Rangers die, as it needs a big club to fold for the football world to realise that things cannot carry on the way they are with regards to outrageous wages to players and feckless financing. ps.- Corby (Chernobyl ) Town will never be anything other than a tiny non-league outfit playing in front of a a few hundred fans, because people simply don't care.
