Poppies match frozen off
Kettering Town’s home game against AFC Telford United has been postponed following a pitch inspection.
The Blue Square Bet Premier match had been scheduled to be played behind closed doors tomorrow after the Poppies failed to pay a policing bill.
However, the Nene Park surface is unplayable anyway and an early decision was made at lunchtime today.

Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 10:14 AMWOULD LIKE TO MAKE A STATEMENT. PEPSI HAS MADE UNFOUNDED COMMENTS THAT I AM A COACH AT KETTERING TOWN FC. I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT I HAVE NEVER BEEN A COACH AT KETTERING TOWN FC AND NEITHER HAVE I EVER COACHED AT ANY FOOTBALL CLUB AT ANY TIME. IF YOU LOOK THROUGH HIS COMMENTS YOU WILL SEE ONCE AGAIN THAT HE IS HAVING ANOTHER GO AT THE YOUTH SET UP BY SUGGESTING THAT THE COACHES ARE NOT FIT TO BE COACHING THERE. HE DOES NOT KNOW ME AND I HAVE NEVER MET HIM. BUT THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO USE THIS SITE THAT UNFORTUNATELY DO KNOW WHO HE IS !! ALL I AM IS A FOTBALL FAN AND IN BEING THAT I WOULD LOVE TO SEE FOOTBALL CONTINUE IN THIS AREA AT A DECENT LEVEL. I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THE YOUTH SET UP AND THE COACHES AT KETTERING TOWN HAVE BENT OVER BACKWARDS TO PROVIDE THE BEST LEVEL OF COACHING THAT CAN BE GIVEN AND ALSO GIVE UP ALOT OF THEIR TIME TO DO IT WHICH CANNOT BE EASY WHEN MOST HAVE FULL TIME JOBS TOO. SO PEPSI DONT BE A NOB HEAD ALL YOUR LIFE HAVE A BIT OF RESPECT FOR THE JOB PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO DO OVER THERE. YOUR CONTINUED COMMENTS ON THE YOUTH IS NOT APPRECIATED BY ANYONE.

Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 12:24 PMI hate to say this but I think that one of the ways forward for a lot of lower league clubs especially during the winter at times like this is probably to think seriously about G3 pitches. Yes I know they are expensive and I do also realise that this weekend has been particularly cold, so maybe the game may still not have been played....but once the pitch is laid it needs minimum maintenance therefore saving on groundsman, the pitch can be rented out without fear of damaging it.and many other combinations of use .etc etc.. Of course like most people I would love to see football on traditional pitches but with modern technology a lot of these pitches play pretty much like grass now not like the old astro pitches where the ball rolled like a snooker ball !!! I understand quite a few Spanish clubs are turning to G3 and lets face it it works in the States and Canada it is just a case of getting use to it.

Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 10:39 AMThanks for putting that bit straight on what the police are owed I knew there was a figure of £2-3000 mentioned somewhere at the forum. Never realised that the total was as much as £17,000. With the best will in the world the club cannot keep holding their hands out in the hope that the fans are going to bail them out, when does it end ? as there is no sign of a takeover and I believe if it was going to happen we would have seen something a bit more promising by now. The other thing I find worrying is that we are probably just being told the best bits !! what is happening that we do not know about ? maybe this is why the potential buyers are no longer potential. !!!!

Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 09:52 AM@rushdenpoppy Diamonds fans did not sit back and die as you put it. At their 'crisis' meeting on the 10th May they were told they needed to raise £250,000 within 3 weeks to survive which was impossible with the AGM Conference Cup following in mid June. Clearly, as Poppies have recently found out, it is impossible for a small group of fans in this area to raise those types of amounts bearing in mind the current economy.

Friday, February 10, 2012 at 06:03 PMThose of us that were at the Fans forum on Friday night are aware that the policing bill for the THREE Cat A games for the season was a little short of £18000, but that circa £2500 was owed (not £17000) and had to be paid before the AFC Telford game could be policed (i.e. go ahead). We are also aware that the police decide which games are categorised as Cat A. I also know that the Club made representations about the initial list which resulted in at least one fixture being downgraded, thereby "saving" the club a further circa £6000. The game tomorrow, whether to be in public or behind closed doors, in off because the pitch is frozen under the covers and the forecast for tonight and tomorrow does nothing to suggest that will change. A local referee to inspect late morning, as weather conditions prevented the match referee driving down himself from Lincoln, where it was snowing heavily, as he had intended to do. Peversley, may be this will help a little on the Finance side, but the situation is far from good and the consensus is that time is fast running out, unless either the takover completes soon, or the fans dig deep to bail the Club out short term. It's time for us to make our minds up as fans. Stump up a good few quid each - or sit back like Diamonds "fans" did and watch our club DIE.

Friday, February 10, 2012 at 03:39 PMThe Police are actually owed £17,000 and the Safety Advisory Group in conjunction with KTFC and the Northants Police would have determined before the start of the season which games would need police presence within the ground and footprint of the stadium and clearly games such as Luton, Lincoln and Telford came into this category particularly the last two where there has been 'previous' between the two sets of fans.

Friday, February 10, 2012 at 03:09 PMHate to say this......Seems to me that at this point the police have dictated what category of a game this was to be..but more importantly if the club cannot pay the police which I believe are owed £2000-3000 not sure exactly, then thats it !! Im afraid.......But I would like to add that if I was a potential buyer of the club I think I would have been at the Friday meeting if only to get a feel for what the fans would like to see happen and get a feel for their opinions. If I were truly serious about taking it over I definately would not let the club run its nose into the ground for the sake of a few grand..As a football fan this is a tragedy for local football what with the empty promises etc some people should hang their heads in shame in misleading supporters, football fans and the youth set up in the way they have been feeding people with empty hopes.
