Poppies frozen off
AFC Telford v Kettering Town, Blue Square Premier Saturday 7th January 2012
Kettering Town’s home clash with Forest Green Rovers this afternoon has been called off because of a frozen pitch.
The south side of the pitch was still solid when it was inspected by referee Michael Bull at around 1pm and he made a straightforward decision to postpone the fixture.
Poppies caretaker-boss Mark Cooper said: “The referee was concerned about the goalmouth in front of the terrace and the south side of the pitch.
“It was probably the right decision. The pitch was soft in some parts but too hard in a large area.”

Monday, January 16, 2012 at 05:18 PMAparently Reading are in the hunt for one of the Northampton players, Micheal Jacobs i think, £400,000 figure being bundled about. Will probably have future add ones for appearences etc but a good bit of business for The Cobblers, Nice to a Rothwell lad making the grade too, A boost for the county for sure.

Monday, January 16, 2012 at 05:07 PMI don't think there's anything headline making about how much David Cardoza has put into NTFC.In fact last year it was apparently 8 million, so perhaps he's taken a bit back. However, to find his club holding the rest of the Football up is nothing more than criminal, and you have to question the Chairman's decisions with regard to how he's spent the money. There is no doubt that DC is a good, honest and a trusting man, and has perhaps been very naive in who he's trusted to spend his "investment".The one saving grace, is that unlike Ladak, DC has always payed the tax owing, and as far as I'm aware, the only creditors are himself and the other Directors.

Monday, January 16, 2012 at 01:59 PMDavid Cardoza is being interviewed by James Burridge on BBC LookEast at 23.05 this evening. Apparently Cardoza says he has invested over £7million in the football club since he took over and an additional £350k on the playing budget this season alone so it will be interesting to hear his comments on the situation that NTFC now find themselves in.

Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 02:41 PMI don't really see what you're trying to say.Yes, Northampton is three times the size of Kettering, yet since the move to Sixfields we've always enjoyed at least 4 times as many hard core supoort. Yes NTFC is embarrassingly under acheiving, but unliked the Poppies, have their own ground safely tied in to well into the next century, and more importantly play in the borough of the town that it prepresents. The move to Nene Park was only ever going to end in total failure unless another mug like Max came along to blow his fortune.I like Poopies fans, as they are stick with their club through thick and thin, but unfortunately have been put in a corner where , in the club's present form, there is little or no hope.

Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 01:29 PMking ted, northampton is a massive town. nearly 3 times bigger than kettering. for a town of that size, merely surviving and fighting relegation each year is not good enough. face it,most northampton folk are not into football but more into rugby. kettering has a core of 1000 fans more or less who are still turning up despite the worst ever season the club has faced...not many nonleague clubs who have struggled since the 80s can say that.

Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 08:34 PMIt's as near to the rest of the Northamptonshire football loving public as Franklins Gardens is to the rest of the Northamptonshire rugby loving public. I rset my case ! Anyway, thanks for the chat, I've really enjoyed it.I'm now off to the pub to raise a glass for Northamptonshire football.

Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 08:26 PMBut even with that King Ted, NTFC are only clinging on with the skin of their teeth. KTFC play out of the borough, Sixfields is hardly central though.

Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 08:15 PMExactly ! From that statement we can deduce that only the Cobblers have any hope of sustaining league football in Northants. For years I have been advocating one Northamptonshire club representing the county, whch would attract paying support from the whole of Northamptonshire, like the Saints enjoy in rugby. However, when I suggested it on the Dims website I was rebuffed and verbally castigated. Now look at the situation that Northants football is in.

Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 08:08 PMDiamonds are gone, KTFC are in a mess, NTFC are about to go out of league football if they continue as they are and Corby only survive because of the council support that one day may be taken away, other than that the area is flourishing in football

Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 08:05 PMI agree with you, football is in a mess. However, just because the Dims are dead and the Poppies are dying, for Northamptonshire's football, let's just hope that the Cobblers can improve and keep flying the flag.

Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 08:00 PMI am not bitter about Northampton King Ted just a realist, football is in a mess and with boothroyd coming in NTFC are throwing money at survival, just hope they do for their sake.

Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 07:55 PMIf the worst was to happen then yes I do think the fans would stay with them.Exactly the same way that Luton fans have stayed with their club. The Dims fans deserted their club when they were relegated, and that just shows how many were glory hunters. The Poppies, although having a hard core support of several hundred, will never be big enough to sustain a full time club playing in a stadium away from the town of Kettering. I also believe that the Cobblers will finish the season lower mid table, which should disappoint bitter East Northants football supporters.

Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 07:47 PMWill all the hardcore fans be there ifwhen they are relegated though King Ted, is Boothroyd on cheap money and there preparing for the BSP. if you think NTFC will carry on as normal if they are relegated, you need to have a serious think because anyone who thinks that are kidding themselves, Luton Town are alot bigger and better than Northampton Town and they cant escape the division either.

Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 07:42 PMUnlike the Poppies and the Dims, Northampton Town boasts a hard core loyal support, both in quantity and affluence,in order to support the club no matter what division they were to find themselves. They also, unlike Kettering and the Dims, play in the area from which the club derives its name.It was naive and foolish to think that any club could survive playing in a wilderness like Nene Park..

Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 07:14 PMThey will need it king ted as there current showing suggests the will be in the bsp next season. Big manager, big players don't come cheap and who knows with a financial dip through relegation they may be in a similar position to others then.
