Youngsters set to develop for Corby
Corby Town boss Graham Drury is backing the youngsters in his squad to develop into a strong unit over the coming years.
This season has seen Drury bring the likes of James Ozmen, Jordan Smith, Sam Mullarkey, Mark Jones, Tom Land, Lee Beeson and Jack Drury into his squad.
For all of them it has been a first taste of Blue Square Bet North football and they have not always found it easy to handle.
But Drury feels that by backing and supporting the players, they will develop into consistent performers.
“A lot of these lads have been thrown in at Conference North level and they’re learning all the time and if you don’t back them, they’ll never get better,” he said.
“We’ve got a couple who perhaps haven’t quite reached the mark we want yet.
“But that will come in time and we need to keep backing them to ensure they get better.”
The likes of Ozmen, Smith, Mullarkey and Jones are all likely to start today’s home game against Boston United who themselves released former Corby player Jordan Fairclough from their squad this week.
“Jordan texted me to say he’d been released and he will learn from the experience,” said Drury.
“He’s still perhaps a bit naïve as to when to go forward and when to drop back and he does sometimes leave a gap at the back.
“But you have to expect that because he’s a young kid and I’m sure he’ll come back a better player for it.”
Corby will go into this afternoon’s game looking to build on their fine win at Blyth Spartans last week which in turn followed on from a draw at league leaders Hyde.
“We put in a good shift at Blyth and the lads probably deserved it,” continued Drury.
“But we need to be showing that sort of form at home because our record there at the moment is not good enough.
“I know the lads want to win every game they play in, especially at home, so we’ve got to put it right in front of our own fans and we want that to start today.”
