UCL Premier League round-up

IAIN BLAIKIE'S double gave Desborough Town a 2-1 derby win in over bottom side Rothwell Corinthians in the Eagle Bitter UCL Premier Division.

Blaikie put Ar Tarn ahead before Tony Ielapi levelled for the bottom side, following up to score after Ben Pridmore saved Kev Fox's penalty.

But Blaikie struck again for a second-half winner for Desborough to leave manager Dave Williams a happy man.

"It was your typical local derby fare, they worked very hard but luckily we had the quality to win through," he said.

Corinthians boss Frank Ielapi was again left to bemoan his side's luck as they suffered yet another defeat.

"There have been several games this season when we've not got what we've deserved and this was another of those," he said.

"We should have had at least a draw but we defended poorly again for both their goals and that's been the story for us all season."

RAUNDS TOWN took the local honours against Wellingborough Town with a 1-0 win at Kiln Park.

In a scrappy game, Josh Davis' first-half goal was enough to settle it in the Shopmates' favour.

"I thought we played very well in the first half and could have two or three more goals but the second half was a bit a non-event," said Raunds boss Colin Ridgway.

"We were out on our feet after half-time and never looked like scoring but the job was already done."

Doughboys boss Joe Smyth felt his side might have deserved more but conceded that they hadn't played to their best.

"To be quite honest, neither side did

especially much, it was a typical local derby where some good football occasionally

broke out in a sea of general mediocrity," he said.

S&L kept their title challenge back on track with a 3-0 win at Sleaford Town.

Michael Byrne put the Corby outfit ahead inside the first minute and Steve Noble's men never looked back after that.

Byrne made it 2-0 before half-time and Ben Smith sealed with win in the closing minutes.

"Once we got that first goal it was

comfortable for us and we looked like our usual selves," said Noble.

"Sleaford is not an easy place to go to but the early goal was exactly what we needed and after that I thought we were always in control.

"We've been a bit hit and miss of late so this was just the sort of game and display

we needed to get back on track."
