Dunion looks to top of relegation mini-league

Rothwell Town boss Rob Dunion wants his side to go top of the mini-league in BGB Southern League Division One Midlands.

The Bones are fourth-bottom ahead of their trip to fellow strugglers Dunstable Town.

But a win would not only lift them above the Blues, it would put them top of the bottom six.

"It's a little mini-league down there at the wrong end of the table and we have a chance to get on top of that this weekend," said Dunion.

"While it might not look like much, for all the sides down there, the psychological boost of seeing your name above all your immediate rivals in the relegation battle can do wonders for confidence.

"It's not that we're short on confidence or belief. The numbers and banter in training is not that of a struggling club.

"But we need to keep picking up the points, especially in these six-pointers against the sides around us."

However, while confidence is high, Dunion is concerned that the Bones may be suffering a lack of match practice, having not played for 11 days after last week's game with Nuneaton Town was postponed.

"It's been very stop-start which is no good for consistency or building

a winning momentum," he said,

"We really need a run of games now or we're going to end up with a big backlog which is the last thing we need, given that we've got a small squad here."

Rothwell go into tomorrow's game just a point behind Dunstable but in better form having lost only two of their last five while the Blues are on a run of five straight defeats.

Dunion has goakeeper Alex Malong and defender Martin Flannigan back in his squad after both were doubts for the Nuneaton game while Danny Pownell also returns.

"Danny's been in and around the squad for the last two months but he's never been properly fully fit," said Dunion.

"But now he has fully recovered and is able to play a full part for us again."

Rothwell from: Malong, F Koriya, Flannigan, Rice, Hackett, Glass, Pownell, Sneddon, Medine, Boyle-Chong, Byrne, Goodall, Locklin, Rogers, Underwood, Linton.
