Drury worried over Steelmen’s plans for a return to action tonight

Graham Drury is worried Corby Town’s preparations for their return to action have been far from ideal.

The Steelmen are set to host Hinckley United in the Blue Square Bet North tonight in the first game for both sides in over two weeks.

The game is a big one for both teams with the Steelmen looking for a first home win since November to get their play-off bid back on track while the Knitters are in the bottom three and fighting relegation.

But Drury’s concerns are whether they will last the full 90 minutes.

“We had a brief training session at the weekend but that’s all we’ve been able to do in the last three weeks because of the weather,” he said.

“It’s been so frustrating.

“We just haven’t been able to find anywhere to train regularly because pitches are all frozen up and with it being half-term, the schools and colleges are shut so we can’t use them either.

“I desperately wanted us to get a training session in on Monday night but we couldn’t find anywhere.

“The only possible place was somewhere in Northampton and they wanted £100 for about half an hour.

“It means I’ve had to trust my lads to work on their own and ensure their fitness is ready.

“I’m sure we will be ready to face Hinckley tonight and we all want the game to be on.

“But once again we have not been able to train properly together and prepare as I would usually like to and that is very annoying.

“We need to win the game to move on from our last match (the home defeat by Boston United) and start moving up the league again.

“But Hinckley need the win too, they’re battling down there at the bottom and they have a lot of pace up front so it will be tough.

“It’s an important game for both sides and we have not had the ideal build-up to it.

“But we’ve got to make sure we put in the right sort of performance.”

Footballs in a mess Ray and it doesnt matter which local side you support. KTFC could be no more, Corby struggle again in second half of season and look relegation more than promotion and Northampton are clinging on. Never heard of Man Utd but enjoy your chips.

@fottbalfinatic Yes Corby IS a football town, that is why the Council thought it 'a good idea' to co-fund Steel Park (please note the phrase CO-FUND - money also came from elsewhere). The adverage Corby gate is around 500 for a town of at most 60,000 but lets actually LOOK at the figures. Man United (you may have heard of them) have an average gate of over 75,000 from a catchment area of 2.5 MILLION people PLUS they have a national profile with people all over the land wanting to see them so their catchment area is actually about 60 MILLION. Corby, in contrast, YES, we should do better, the board believes we should have gates of maybe 1000. Our catchment area is much less but has increased this year. I go to see Corby, my friends go to see Leicester City. I hope all our local teams do well (BUT WE BEAT THEM!) I WANT Kettering to survive so we can tank them at everyu opportunity. Corby Town FC are doing OK, need to sort our home form out. will be there at 2.30pm, buy my program, half time draw tickets and a box of chips! (BTW - won £75 last year on the draw)

@Footballfinatic - the ground is owned by the council, so the club pay a peppercorn rent. Everything else is paid for by the club as far as I know? @il Capitano - my 10 year old says he's looking forward to playing 1872 Kettering (or whatever silly name you reform with) next season in the Weetabix League.

Ray, Corby is a massive footballing town and Corby Town should get alot more fans than they do. Regardless of your thoughts CTFC is heavily helped and subsidised by Corby Council. I dont have an issue with this but whilst people pay their taxes and services and jobs are being cut all over town I find it difficult to congratulate the council on the massive support they give CTFC. Surely this time and money could be better spent elsewhere and then more of the community could gain from it. Thats my point. CTFC is a business after all,

@ footballfinatic TOTALLY wrong. CBC helped to provide a new ground which any good council would do. A successful football club generates a lot of good publicity for a town, gets them known around the world and becomes a cheap way of publicising a town. CBC DO NOT pay Corby Town FCday to day bills - that would be illegal. Any further improvements to Steel Park would have to be financed by the club themselves, perhaps through various Football Trusts, etc. which also helped finance Steel Park (how do I know? simple, I asked a prominent councillor) The council do support CTFC but on a sensible basis. Don't blame CBC for doing something positive for the town just because kettering council never did the same for their team.

Luckily even with 100 at corby they will be ok as the council pay the bills allegedly. With any luck they will pay mine also. Relagation battle coming if there home form continues.

I see a massive 500 people turned up for a last throw of the dice fundraiser to save KTFC last night against Coventry, so it looks like the folk of Kettering (and Irthlingborough and Rushden) poorly regard the future of the Poppies too. Feeling a bit silly now son haha !?

There are more people commenting on this article than were at the game last night. maybe next match you should get a kettering fan to stand in the away end there, and you'll get 2000 corbyites coming in to tell him how good corby is :D

il Capitano, you seemed to forget, 280 at Corby is 280 more than Kettering are allowed.
