Drury rejects any temptation to sign players from disbanded Celtic

Corby Town boss Graham Drury will not be looking to pick up any former Farsley Celtic players following the Leeds-based club's demise.

The Celts were disbanded this week with debts of around 750,000 and they are likely to be expelled from the Blue Square North in due course for failing to fulfil three fixtures.

All of their squad were made free agents on Wednesday – although the administrators are still hoping the club may continue until the end of this season.

But Drury will not be looking to take part in the fire sale and snap up any late free deals.

"We probably couldn't afford to bring anyone in now even if we wanted to," said Drury.

"And the bottom line is that we're too far away for any of those players to consider coming to us.

"It would make getting them to training and home games a real problem and I don't think they or we need that with the season at the stage it is.

"From what I gather, three of their players have already signed for Droylsden, so they clearly aren't happy with their lot and feel they need to boost their squad.

"But we have to go with what we have now for the rest of the season unless there's an absolute emergency.

"If that happens, then I'll speak to the chairman about trying to get someone in. But that's only in an extreme situation.

"Otherwise, I'm happy with what we've got."

Drury's optimism is based around the fact that the injury list at Rockingham Triangle finally seems to be shrinking.

Gavin Strachan and Steve Diggin both made their comebacks in the midweek draw at Northwich Victoria, Strachan capping his return with a late equaliser.

And Drury should have combative midfielder Leon Hibbert available for tomorrow's long trip to Workington – a timely return given that Steve Towers is suspended.

"It's not looking as bad as it was a month ago on the injury front," continued Drury.

"The only long-term ones now are Tommy Jaszczun and Dean West.

"But the rest of the squad is fine and we're looking to carry on the good work from Northwich at Workington."
