Doubles for Diamonds strikers

Summer signing Max York opened his account for Rushden & Diamonds during the 5-1 win at Ilfracombe Town in the Joma South West Challenge Cup.

Nabil Shariff doubled the lead soon afterwards but Michael Corcoran

conceded a penalty which allowed the home side to pull one back before the break.

However Shariff struck again early in the second half then substitute Sam Smith got two goals in a three-minute spell.

Diamonds are back in action at Torrington on Thursday night (8pm) knowing that victory over npower League Two club Shrewsbury Town would secure a place in Saturday's north Devon tournament semi-final.

Meanwhile James McPake scored the only goal after six minutes as Northampton Town lost at home to Coventry City.
