Diamonds: Our season is back on track says Osano

Curtis Osano feels the Rushden & Diamonds squad must stick together after getting their early-season form back on track.

Three wins inside a week lifted them from the bottom of the Blue Square Bet Premier into sixth spot ahead of Saturday's trip to York City who also missed out in last season's promotion play-offs.

Diamonds had conceded two second-half goals each time in three away defeats until they kept a clean sheet in the Bank Holiday victory at Kettering Town.

Osano was the man of the match with a solid defensive display and a match-winning assist as a free-kick was headed into his own net by Poppies skipper Ashley Westwood.

The Kenyan said: "It was a shock to be at the bottom of the league when we lost at Barrow.

"I'm sure people were laughing at us and wondering what was going wrong.

"But we knew that we weren't playing badly – even though the results didn't reflect our performances.

"We thought we would get back on track and now we've got a winning run going.

"It has just been a case of hard work and sticking together collectively.

"Every game this season is going to be tough but we are confident that the results will go our way.

"People might have judged us when they saw us at the bottom. We had to be patient and hang in there."

Osano has switched to the heart of the Diamonds defence alongside skipper Jamie Stuart but right-back Justin Miller must serve a one-match ban following his red card at Kettering.

Michael Corcoran and Shane Huke are both on the sidelines through injuries so England C international midfielder Max Porter looks likely to drop into the back four against York on Saturday.

Osano added: "Jamie is the perfect partner. I know he will throw himself towards the ball and he makes my job easier in covering behind."
