Christie: Why I'm staying

Iyseden Christie hopes a permanent move to Kettering Town can be completed sooner rather than later.

Christie was on the verge of a switch to York City earlier this week just days after scoring a dramatic stoppage-time winner for the Poppies at Salisbury City last weekend.

But the frontman remains on loan at the A-Line Arena from Stevenage Borough after revealing a move to Kit-Kat Crescent "just wasn't

appropriate".

He is all set to face his former club Kidderminster Harriers in

tomorrow's top-of-the-table clash in the Blue Square Premier and he is hopeful a permanent deal with the Poppies can now be completed.

"The York situation was happening before the Salisbury game and I knew they had made an approach to Stevenage and they had been given permission to speak to me," he said.

"To all intents and purposes I think it was going to happen but things changed and in the end it wasn't really viable.

"If I had gone I would have moved up there but there were issues that came up and I couldn't be driving up and down the motorway every day. In the end it just wasn't appropriate.

"Kettering know all the details about my situation so there isn't much to do in terms of negotiations. There are things to work on in agreeing something with Stevenage.

"I didn't have to come here on loan but it was a good move for me and the manager and the boys have made me welcome.

"After such a short time it's great for me that they are so interested in keeping me here.

"But hopefully things can move quickly and from my point of view it's a case of the sooner something is done, the better.

"It's nice to be wanted and the fact that they want me is making me want to stay here."

Christie, meanwhile, is looking forward to facing Kidderminster at the A-Line Arena tomorrow.

He added: "I played there for the best part of four years and got to know the club really well.

"In the summer I decided to move on and I thought that was the right thing to do at the time.

"It was purely for football reasons. It was nothing to do with money. I just felt it was going to be a better option for me to go to Stevenage.

"Obviously that didn't work out but I am at Kettering now and it will be good to see a few of the players for such a big game tomorrow."
