Burgess linked with dream move

Rushden & Diamonds captain Andy Burgess could be set for a dream move to Luton Town.

The Hatters fan has already held transfer talks over a possible move to Cyprus and also been linked with Northampton Town.

Burgess seems certain to leave Nene Park on a free transfer this summer, along with Chris Hope and Marcus Kelly.

It is believed that terms have been agreed with Luton boss Mick Harford hinting a deal could be imminent.

He admitted: "We would be interested in speaking to Burgess.

"We're in contact with numerous players. We're looking to fill seven or eight positions and we are very close to making two or three signings.

"This is for a variety of positions, defensively, for a wide man and a couple more strikers."

Burgess would become the second player to leave Diamonds since the end of last season.

Striker Daryl Clare has completed a permanent move to Blue Square Premier rivals Mansfield Town on a one-year contract following a loan spell.

If Burgess joins Luton, he could even line up against Diamonds in a pre-season tournament.

Both clubs have entered the Errea South West Challenge Cup in Devon with a full fixture list to be announced on June 1.
