Boss looks to take advantage in another shot at top spot
Mark Cooper is eyeing up top spot in the Blue Square Premier for the second time in the space of a week.
Second-placed Kettering Town head to current leaders Crawley Town
tomorrow knowing a victory by two clear goals would put them on top of
the pile.
But the Poppies will need to bounce back from their first defeat of the
season, suffered at home to Burton Albion on Monday, as well as end an eight-game unbeaten run for Steve Evans' side at the Broadfield Stadium.
It's a challenge for Cooper's men. But the manager is ready to take it
on.
"It's a brilliant position for us to be in at the moment," Cooper said.
"When Saturday is done it will be 12 games into the season and to be competing for top spot is fantastic. Who would have thought we would be
there?
"Every time we had preparing for a game, going into Monday, the pressure had been building for us not to get beaten.
"But that's out of the way now.
"It was not meant to be against Burton. I am a great believer in fate.
"With 10 men we deserved to get something from the game but it wasn't going to happen for us.
"Hopefully it will be our day against Crawley.
"There's a chance to go to the top of the league and I hope we have a really good following down there with us.
"It's a chance to show how resilient we are."
The Poppies stayed in second spot as results went in their favour during a full programme of matches on Tuesday night.
And Cooper feels the title is there for the taking after a tight start to the season.
"You only have to look at the league table and the results from midweek to see that the division is wide open," the Poppies boss added.
"It's there for anyone who can put a consistent run together.
"If one team can do that then they will take the league by the scruff of the neck.
"We just have to try to get another run going now.
"The lads have had a couple of days off and we will make sure we are ready to bounce back."
