Bones ready for tough challenge

Rob Dunion is just hoping Rothwell Town get the chance to play a game this evening.

The Bones have played just two matches so far this year after their Southern League Division One Midlands clash at Barton Rovers was called off just after they had arrived at the ground on Saturday.

The backlog of fixtures are really starting to pile up for Dunion's men now but the manager is still feeling confident as they prepare for a

tough clash at current leaders Hitchin Town tonight.

"The number of games we have had called off is just crazy," Dunion said.

"Saturday's game was called off just as we were about to get off the coach and the problem is that it is starting to be very costly for teams in the league.

"Some of the referees seem to want to be gardeners rather than anything else. At our level you need to let these matches start.

"We just want a game to be honest and it will be a relief when we are back out there. Hopefully, it happens tonight.

"We are looking forward to it. Hitchin are on top of the table and it will be a hard game for us.

"But we will put a team out there that can compete with them. I still want us to finish this season well and the main target is getting in the top 10."

Dunion's cause hasn't been helped by the departure of two more players after David Glass and Dom Hallows left last week.

Kevin Byrne has joined UCL Premier Division side S&L while Jon Stevenson has also left Cecil Street.

"Kev goes with our best wishes," Dunion said.

"Jon, on the other hand, was a big disappointment. There was a real lack of professionalism from him and anyone who gets him will need a lot of luck.

"It has left us a bit short but we still have an experienced squad who can do well at this level.

"It means I have to bring in a few of the youth-team boys but that is an area that the club has worked hard on.

"In the long run, it can only be a good thing for the club and the

players."

Rothwell from: Crockett, Underwood, Sturgess, Maddox, White, Darby, Mills, Flannigan, Goodall, Turner, Cerelli, Locklin, Bowles.
