Battling Rushden lose on the road

Despite a gritty performance Rushden and Diamonds lost 2-1 against table topping Altrincham Town.

Diamonds could count themselves unlucky not to be rewarded with a draw in a thoroughly entertaining game in which they played well.

They went behind in the first half through a John Grant goal.

And Altrincham doubled their lead with a superbly taken goal in the second half.

The goal came just after half-time with a crisp left-foot volley from just inside the area by Ben Harding.

Diamonds' goal machine Simeon Jackson pulled one back for Diamonds on 62 minutes but they could not go on to level the game.
