Aaron moves closer to return from injury

Three key players could be back in action for Rushden & Diamonds next week.

Vice-captain Michael Corcoran plus strikers Aaron O'Connor and Craig Farrell are likely to return in a specially-arranged friendly ahead of the home game against Newport County.

But Shane Huke could stay on the sidelines for three weeks and Justin Miller misses tomorrow's game at York City to serve a one-match suspension following his red card against Kettering Town on Monday.

Boss Justin Edinburgh said: "Unfortunately things are as they were.

"But Aaron, Michael and Craig are progressing well. Hopefully at least two of them will take part in a game next midweek.

"Aaron joined in training yesterday which was a massive boost for the

squad and himself.

"Shane is getting there slowly but his knee feels stiff and uncomfortable."

The absence of Miller, Corcoran and Huke means Edinburgh could be forced to switch midfielder Max Porter to right-back.

Edinburgh admitted: "That's something I've thought about and another option is putting Jamie Day there.

"Max has been comfortable stepping into that position on numerous

occasions and he did it again at Kettering."

Just before the transfer deadline York sold striker Richard Brodie to Crawley Town.

Edinburgh added: "People will say it's a good time to play them but it's always a tough place to go to."

Porter, Curtis Osano and Dale Roberts have been named in the England C squad for a friendly against Wales Under-23s at Newtown a week on Tuesday.

Diamonds defender Aynsley McDonald will play for Wales Under-19s

in Liechtenstein on the same night.

Meanwhile the NFA Hillier Senior Cup second-round tie at home to

Daventry United has been arranged for Tuesday, October 12.
