Saturday round up: Diamonds thrash Altrincham but Cobblers lose

Rushden & Diamonds continued their recent revival with an emphatic 4-0 win away to Altrincham.
Andy Burgess scored twice with Lee Tomlin and Curtis Osano also on target after Altrincham were reduced to 10 men.

Home midfielder Shaun Densmore was harshly sent off after 20 minutes and Diamonds never looked back.

Meanwhile Northampton Town's erratic season continued with a 2-1 defeat at Sixfields to Colchester.

Former Northampton Town captain Paul Reid put Colchester in a commanding two-goal lead after Clive Platt had put the Us 1-0 up.

Danny Jackman pulled one back for the Cobblers, but it was not enough.

In the FA Cup, Leicester City scraped past Dagenham & Redbridge by three goals to two to go through into the much sought-after third round.

Corby Town
slipped to defeat losing 2-1 at home to Halesowen Town.
Rothwell Town lost 1-0 away to Bedworth in Division One of the BGB.

In the Eagle Bitter UCL league, S&L Corby drew 1-1 away at Bourne Town, but Desborough lost 1-2 at home to Newport, Raunds were defeated 1-0 away to Yaxley and Rothwell Corinthians were thrashed 5-0 away at Stotfold.

In the Premiership, there were wins for Bolton, who piled on the misery for Sunderland as they dropped into the bottom three with a 4-1 defeat, and Wigan defeated West Brom 2-1.

All other matches ended in draws, with Aston Villa v Fulham and Middlesbrough and Newcastly closing out goalless matches. And Stoke drew one each with Hull City

Rugby Union round-up
Northampton Saints were outclassed as they crashed 33-10 away to Gloucester.

The Saints have not won since their September 20 home victory over Wasps by 24-20 and have secured only three points - a losing bonus point and that draw - since that triumph.
