Rothwell Town boss Rob Dunion was a proud man after seeing his side beat Corby Town 1-0 in the GX Southern League Cup.
As a former Corby boss, victory was sweet for Dunion and it was one of nine ex-Corby players in the squad, Chris Difante, who got the winning goal.

"It was very enjoyable. We came here with a game-plan and it worked," he said.

"We set out to stifle them and then see what we could create and the players stuck to the task superbly. I'm proud of them all.

"We also took the game to them and coming as it did after playing very well for no reward in the FA Trophy this was an important result for us.

"We looked upon this as far more than just a cup match.

"This was a game we needed to win to carry on from the Trophy game and turn a corner and we talked about that after the game.

"We feel we are now around that corner and we can push on and build on this."

Dunion was also full of praise for all his players – particularly goalkeeper Alex Malong who made three superb saves in the game.

"He played very well indeed. He's really coming on now," added Dunion.
Corby boss Graham Drury blamed a poor attitude from his players for their defeat after labelling their performances as "lackadaisical".

He said: "I don't think we were on any sort of form at all. I think most of the players out there thought it was a Sunday morning stroll in the park.

"All credit to Rothwell. They worked hard and defended well.

"But with the side I picked, the so-called quality of players like Steve Diggin and Martin Wormall up top and Leon Hibbert in midfield,
should have been more than enough to win.

"But there were players out there who didn't want to play and some of them won't play again."
