John Dempster has signed on for Kettering Town's return to the Blue Square Premier.
The Poppies skipper completed a deal to remain at the A-Line Arena last night and hand manager Mark Cooper a major boost as he continues the job of building a squad capable of competing at the next level.

But midfielder David Bridges has joined Gary Mills at Stevenage Borough who are also being accused of making an illegal approach for striker Craig Westcarr.

Central defender Dempster swept the board at the presentation evening as he claimed the big prizes of players' player of the year and the supporters' award as well as being named player of the season by Evening Telegraph readers for the ET/Carrington Bearings accolade.

Cooper also revealed fellow defender Luke Graham has agreed to stay while talks remain "ongoing" with midfielder Brett Solkhon.

Deals have already been agreed with experienced trio Lee Harper, Nicky Eaden and Tommy Jaszczun.

But Cooper was delighted with his latest piece of business and is happy with the way things are shaping up – although he admits he has
little choice but to take his time when it comes to bringing in new faces.

"Defensively I think we are sorted. We are looking strong in that
department," said the Poppies boss.

"Obviously we are waiting on Solkhon. But things are ongoing.

"I have spoken to three or four players already about next season. However, I am not going to get overly excited about it because all clubs are looking around.

"There are some who are asking for silly money and I have little choice but to bide my time."

Tom Kemp and Kevin Spencer are also set to remain with the Blue Square North champions for the new campaign.

Meanwhile, Cooper is hoping a deal can be agreed to ensure Adam Sinclair stays on as first-team coach.

Guy Branston, Jon Brady, David Galbraith, Jean-Paul Marna and Chris Beardsley are already contracted for the new season.
