Cardiff UCCE made a valiant – but ultimately unsuccessful attempt to chase down their target of 365 for victory against Northamptonshire.
Having been on the back foot for most of the three-day game at the County Ground, they showed plenty of spirit in the last session as they set about securing an unlikely victory.

Number eight Ryan Bishop led the way with 93 not out on Friday.

He shared stands of 81 with Robert Foster (55) and 72 with Kyle Tudge (30no) as the students eventually ended up 311-7.

Northamptonshire had declared on their overnight score of 271-4 which came about largely thanks to Riki Wessels' 145.

The bulk of the bowling effort was done by spinner Jason Brown (25-5-81-1) and Graeme White (29-6-108-2) as the first-class side failed to see off their university opposition.

They are back in action today with a home game against Leicestershire before taking on Warwickshire in a televised clash at Edgbaston tomorrow.

Both matches are in the Friends Provident Trophy as they press for a quarter-final place.
