In a survey of all of the cricket grounds in England and Wales, Steelbacks' supporters said they would like to see a proper members' pavilion, shelter from the rain and a bigger capacity.

The County Ground in Abington Avenue is due for a major new building development, including a new media centre and a redevelopment of the members' pavilion.

Chief executive, Mark Tagg, said: "I wholly agree with the comments about the members' pavilion. It is less than perfect and offers a poor viewing experience.

"In the development plans we have recognised this and are looking to enlarge it and make it a much better viewing facility.

"We are also looking to change the way the sightscreens work, as they can currently block out the view. Our ambition is to make it the best county cricket ground in the country that is not a Test venue.

"We want families to come to the County Ground and really have an enjoyable day out. With the changes we are making, I believe we can do that."

In the results of the survey, carried out by Drivers Jonas Sport, Lords was named the nation's best test match cricket ground and a favourite for spectator facilities, closely followed by Trent Bridge and The Oval.

Durham was voted the most comfortable ground, with Essex and Somerset faring the worst. The best rated cricket food is served up by Hampshire, Worcestershire and Middlesex.

No ground rated particularly highly for ease of getting served in intervals and most dissatisfaction with the speed of service was Middlesex and Surrey.

Nottinghamshire's Trent Bridge ground was rated the best for toilets while Essex was the worst.
