Garry Hill could be close to boosting Rushden & Diamonds' firepower by signing two prolific strikers.
He has reportedly agreed deals with Burton Albion hitman Daryl Clare and Torquay United forward Lee Phillips to lead the attack next season as Diamonds aim to regain their Football League status.

It is understood that Diamonds are ready to pay £15,000 for Phillips
who previously played for Hill at Weymouth.

Clare – who had a loan spell with Northampton Town in the early stages of his career – is believed to have already accepted terms at Nene Park.

After missing out in the Blue Square Conference Premier play-off semi-finals Burton and Torquay may be looking to rebuild for a fresh promotion bid.

The Brewers have officially confirmed that Clare is considering their offer of a new deal for next season.

However, it seems they are also aware of other interest while the
forward could be on the move closer to his Lincolnshire home.

Clare has twice won the Conference's golden boot award in helping Boston United and Chester City to the championship.

Last season he scored 28 goals for Burton, including one in the home win over Diamonds, having joined them from Crawley Town just over two years ago. He will be 30 at the start of the new campaign.

Phillips, 27, started his career at Plymouth Argyle and moved to Torquay from Devon rivals Exeter City for £17,500 last summer.

He found the target 16 times for the Gulls and proved to be a
popular player with his work-rate and physical strength.

Diamonds have also been linked with a bid for Stevenage Borough striker Steve Morison.

But the former Cobblers trainee is likely to be back in the Football League next season as he has been constantly rumoured to be on his way to Crewe Alexandra.

Diamonds are believed to be in talks over compensation to sign Bradley Woods-Garness from Ryman League Premier Division side Billericay Town.

The youngster, described as "an exciting talent with searing pace" has rejected an offer to stay there.

Diamonds left-back Dean Howell, meanwhile, last night completed a free transfer to Blue Square Premier champions Aldershot Town.

Shots manager Gary Waddock said: "He's very strong going forward and can track back.

"He's looking forward to the challenge and has a point to prove. He's had a taste of the Football League. He has come out and wants to go back again."
