Exodus Geohaghon insists Kettering Town are ready to show they deserve to be mixing it with the big boys of non-League football.
The giant defender made his initial one-month loan spell from Redditch United permanent yesterday and is now ready for a new challenge of helping the Poppies establish themselves in the Blue Square Premier.

It all starts with a tough-looking clash against Jim Harvey's Forest Green Rovers at the A-Line Arena tomorrow and Geohaghon is hoping he and his new team-mates can get off to a flying start in front of their own fans.

"It's important we get a good start and let people know we are here and
we are not going to be rolled over every week," the centre-half said.

"There are players here who have been in the league and there are also some younger ones coming through so it's a good mix.

"The important thing for us is to show we are here to stay and not be like Droylsden and Farsley Celtic last season. I think we have the players to do that."

From his own point of view, the immediate aim for Geohaghon is to try and force his way into manager Mark Cooper's starting line-up.

And while he admits he may have to wait with Guy Branston and John Dempster likely to renew their partnership tomorrow, the new signing is ready for the challenge of forcing his way in.

He said: "I believe in my own ability but I also have a lot of belief in the other guys here as well.

"The more competition for places there is, the more it galvanises you to achieve.

"If I have to sit down on the bench to start with then fine but if I get my chance I will do my best to take it.

"I have been at clubs in the past where maybe I have been comfortable and not had to worry about being out of the team.

"It's a different challenge here and I am looking forward to pushing all the others for a starting place.

"I am thankful to be given this chance of playing at a higher level. I thought it would just be a loan deal but it's great that the two clubs could come to an agreement."

One thing that the beautifully-named defender brings with him is a mammoth long throw that may prove to be a useful weapon over the course of the season.

And he concedes it is just a skill he has continued to develop over the course of his footballing career.

"When I was young one of the first things I was taught was how to take a throw-in properly and after that it seemed to come naturally," he added.

"I suppose having long limbs helps as well but I will obviously try and use it when I get the chance."
