BOETA DIPPENAAR top-scored as Northamptonshire struggled on the first day of their LV County Championship match with Leicestershire at Grace Road.
At the close, the home side - who won the toss and batted - were 288-4 with former South African Test star Dippenaar finally dismissed on 80.

Dippenaar and fellow South African HD Ackerman shared a third-wicket stand of 109 before Ackerman fell for 62, caught by Andrew Hall of Nicky Boje's bowling.

Hall, who is making his championship debut for Northants in this game, and David Lucas had struck in the morning session to remove openers Tom New (11) and Matt Boyce (37).

But success has since been in short supply for the visitors as Ackerman and Dippenaar moved the home side into a commanding position.
